In 2005, a small local bakery opened its doors on Cumberland Street in Toronto. Ten years later, Dessert Lady expanded to a larger venue on the very same street and is now one of the top pastry shops in the GTA. Dessert Lady serves Retail Customers, Corporate Companies Locally and Nationwide, Cafes, Restaurants, Hotel Chains, Grocery Chains as well as international clients. Positions:

 

 

Cook (1 permanent full-time position)

Dessert Lady is looking for a talented full-time Cook for our store located in Yorkville.

 

Wages: $15 an hour

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing a wide variety of food items and baked goods from scratch, including: soups, sandwiches, salads, cookies, cupcakes, French macarons, and sponge cake, etc.
  • Ensuring the high quality of our produced food items and baked goods to meet our established standards.
  • Maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in the preparation and holding areas.
  • Carefully following recipes and instructions to prepare food items and baked goods.
  • Opening and closing the kitchen on a daily basis, ensuring that work spaces are properly cleaned and stocked.
  • Maintaining an inventory of ingredients and supplies to ensure the kitchen remains stocked at all times.
  • Helping to support and train new staff as required.

 

Job Qualification:

  • 1-2 years professional cooking experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate and maintain kitchen machinery, food preparation equipment and tools.
  • Available to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Energetic, strong work ethics and positive attitude.
  • Fast learner, hard-working, & team player.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs of ingredients and products.
  • Learn to use all bakery processing equipment.
  • English (speaking and writing).
  • Certification or past apprenticeship in the field will be considered an asset (training will be provided).

Dessert Lady is looking for a talented Full-time Assistant Pastry Chef (Junior) for our store located in Yorkville.

 

Job Qualification:

  • Certificate or diploma in the pastry or baking arts required
  • Must be energetic, passionate about Pastry and Cakes
  • Strong work ethics and positive attitude
  • Must speak fluent English
  • Must be able to take direction well and complete tasks within a deadline
  • Ability to multi-task and work quickly to fulfill orders
  • Must be Fast Learner, Detail-Oriented
  • Must have at least 1 yr experience in the pastry field and with cake
  • Food Handling Certification

Cake Artist/Decorator - Full Time

Job Qualification:

 

  • Must have minimum of 1 year cake decorating experience.
  • Must know how to mask a cake.
  • Able to work with buttercream icing and fondant is a must.
  • Attention to detail and able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must be energetic, passionate about Pastry and Cakes
  • Must have a good eye for color and its combinations.
  • Must have a positive attitude, enjoys challenges and is a fast learner.
  • Must speak fluent English
  • Must be able to take direction well and complete tasks within a deadline
  • Knowledge of Hand modelling Figurines (using Gum Paste, Fondant and Modelling Chocolate) is an asset.

  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing), able to read and follow recipes and instructions.
  • Energetic, strong work ethics and positive attitude.
  • Must have Food Handling Certification.
  • Fast learner, hard-working, & team player.
  • Must be able to work independently.

Internship (1-2 OPENINGS)

What are we looking for?

  • You are currently enrolled in a local community college (Culinary Management / Baking And Pastry Arts program).
  • You are available to complete the full internship in the time frame that has been assigned
  • You are a self-starter who will work proactively (once trained) to identify problems and create solutions
  • You are not afraid to communicate, take direction and take constructive criticism
  • You are an individual with an outgoing personality and a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • You must have superior multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • You must have a positive attitude and be passionate about pastry
  • You have the Basic Food Safety Training Certificate and are WHIMS Certified

NOTE: We are conveniently close to the Yonge St./ Bloor subway station (public transit). All liability insurance must be covered by the college (in the event that they cause an accident or injury to others or their property) and personal accident insurance must be fully covered by the college as well. As a mandatory requirement of the Ministry of Education, all students must complete a WSIB form or Work/ Education Placement Agreement/ Post-Secondary Form before they actually begin their Internship. A copy of the completed forms must be handed in to the placement supervisor (Dessert Lady) & a copy must be given to the Internship Coordinator to be kept on file during the Internship.
